Research Capacity Development Programmes
All staff who participates in the Research Capacity Development Programs are required to commit to developing their research and obtain reasonable research outputs per annum. The Research Capacity Development Programs creates opportunities for staff to support each other forward. Publication and accredited research outputs and appropriate outputs such as patents.

| Quantitative and Qualitative Methodology | The workshops covered basic introduction, basic qualitative research, introduction to mixed methods, implementation & return on investment |
| Qualitative Research for Social Sciences | The workshop takes the participants on a journey from the inception of the problem, the research design, the interview protocol, the collection of the data, the analysis of the data and the display and presentation of the findings. Reading material on the most current trends in qualitative research will be distributed amongst the participants |

| VUT-SANTRUST Ph D Development Programme |
VUT in partnership with SANTRUST is offering a “VUT-SANTRUST Ph D Development Programme”. Through this initiative VUT intends to produce reflective academics that have a broad insight into theories, ideas, methods and practices in research. The aim of the programme is to increase research capacity development and establish quality research. | Mentorship Programme: The ‘Hub and Spokes” Model at VUT |
Growing the next generation of South African academics at Vaal University of Technology (VUT) The “Hub and Spokes” model is a structured mentorship development program which aims to bring mentors who are Research Leaders of Strategic Focus Areas at VUT into structured mentoring relations with postgraduate students to support the simultaneous growth of the next generation South African at VUT and leapfrog the development and innovation of the focus areas. The “Hub” refers to the focus area and Research Leaders or Mentor, while “Spokes” refers to the postgraduate students who work under the guidance of the Mentor.
