Bursaries

South African-French Programme for Think-Tanks

The SAFe Think programme seeks to fund exceptional students wishing to undertake a Master’s degree at a French University. It was launched in 2010 with the view of strengthening the connections between South African research institutes and their French counterparts.

By assisting academic partners in establishing sustainable cooperation, the French government aims to facilitate the integration of South African research and policy-oriented institutions into French, European and francophone African scientific networks.

Bursaries are allocated for the duration of a French academic year, i.e. from September 2013 to May 2014, either for the first (M1) or for the second (M2) year of a Master programme. The duration of the grant is one year, once renewable should the student elect to continue with the Master 2 programme.

The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA)

The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) will be awarding 250 bursaries to Engineering students nation-wide.

The initiative is the first since PRASA was established by government two years ago in a bid to stabilise and promote passenger rail services. The bursary initiative will be the first of many initiatives taken by PRASA in its quest to revive rail engineering.

Currently, PRASA has embarked on a Market Engagement exercise in preparation for the acquisition of its new rolling stock (trains) over the next 20 years. In addition, PRASA has already begun with its new train signaling project. Both projects form the basis for rail engineering which is the focus for the bursaries offered by PRASA.
