Perks of Committing Research
by Dr. James Swart

Committing research! Sounds like a crime of some sort, such as committing murder or committing adultery, which are sometimes deliberate and calculated, being carried out with meaningful intent. However, research is not a crime, it’s an obsession! Moreover, the word “commit” is not always associated with crime, but may also be applied to those who pledge themselves to other courses of action, such as research, being deliberate and calculated in their pursuit of new knowledge. Dedicated researchers often show their commitment by their daily words and actions, as they ooze problem statements and research methodologies. The concept of “committing research” may not be new to some researchers, as Prof Louw (DVC: Academic and Research) has often spoken about this on past occasions.
