People the world over as well as conservationists are fast becoming desperate and emotions are running high as the Rhino population is nearing extinction resulting from inhumane poaching.  Whilst the innocence of animals in the wildlife are battling the survival of the fittest, other factors on the rise are that humans are becoming avengers, inflicting harm on the unsuspected creatures of the wild for their own gains.

The Vaal University of Technology is hosting The International Conference on Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine (ICTERM) this week. The conference will cover areas such as recent advances, challenges and breakthroughs in the field of tissue engineering.

 Simply put, Tissue Engineering is the creation of spare human parts. Scientifically, it is the science of design and manufacturing of new tissues for the functional restoration of impaired organs and replacement of lost parts due to cancer, disease, and trauma. VUT achieves 2nd Runner up at National Three Minute Thesis Competition

VUT is delighted to announce the second runner up Immaculate Linda Achieng’ Ouma from the Faculty of Applied and Computer Sciences.

Her thesis title is:

Preparation and characterization of manganese doped iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles coated pine cone powder and its applications in water treatment

Her future plans are:

Work as an academic to help students develop their knowledge of science and provide solutions to environmental problems through science.

Robed in academic regalia, it was an exciting day for prospective millionaires as they gathered with their family in preparation of receiving certificates of recognition after completion of their six months course in Entrepreneurship on 14 July 2016. The 5th certificate ceremony of the VUT/Sasol Entrepreneur Programme took place at the VUT Southern Gauteng Science and Technology Park. The 31 graduates and their parents/guardians eagerly awaited the awarding of the certificates.

Next Intake Set for Even Greater Success

Thanks to the VUT/Sasol Entrepreneur Programme, the second cohort of enthusiastic entrepreneurs are ready and geared to begin. They are extremely excited about their excellent ideas that they hope will become the breathing ground to fertile business that they can implement. This became apparent during the stringent interviews that gave them entry into the programme.

The organising committee and lecturers resolved at a recent meeting that the programme will be restructured to enrich the curriculum, including the opportunity for the students to gain experimental training at the various industry and business sites.
